Maksim Opalev is a former Russian canoe sprint paddler (born 1979). He specialised in the C1 500 m, in which he won a complete set of Olympic medals: gold at Beijing 2008, silver at Sydney 2000 and bronze at Athens 2004. He was also an eleven-time ICF World Champion between 1998 and 2006, and his Beijing gold was the first Olympic canoe/kayak title for Russia.
