Marta Walczykiewicz is one of the most decorated athletes in the history of Polish kayaking. Born on 1 August 1987 in Kalisz and a lifelong member of KTW Kalisz, she spent a decade among the world's very best over the K1 200 m — a run capped by Olympic silver in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, where only New Zealand's Lisa Carrington proved faster. Her world championship haul runs to twelve medals: gold in the K1 4×200 m relay in 2014, plus nine silvers and two bronzes collected between 2007 and 2022. She was twice European champion in the K1 200 m (2013, 2018), won the event at the inaugural European Games in Baku in 2015, and started at three Olympic Games — fifth over 200 m in London, silver in Rio, fourth in Tokyo. Domestically she amassed more than thirty Polish titles. After Tokyo she stepped away from international racing but never left the sport. In October 2024 she was elected to the board of the Polish Canoe Federation with the highest vote count of any candidate, taking on the role of a bridge between the governing body and its athletes. She still lines up at national regattas, too: she was among the medallists when [Jakub Stepun and Anna Puławska headlined the 2025 Polish championships](/news/jakub-stepun-and-anna-pulawska-shine-at-the-88th-polish-national-canoe-sprint-championships-2025), and in 2026 she [returned to racing at the 42nd Polish Long-Distance Championships](/news/42nd-polish-long-distance-championships-2026-walczykiewicz-kepka-en), reaching the K1 podium once again.
