Justyna Iskrzycka wrote herself into Polish kayaking history in Tokyo, where she helped deliver the country's first Olympic medal in a women's K4. Born on 7 November 1997 in Bielsko-Biała, she came up through AZS-AWF Katowice before moving to KU AZS Politechnika Opolska, and has made the 1000 m her defining distance. In the Tokyo K4 500 m final she combined with Karolina Naja, Anna Puławska and Helena Wiśniewska to take Olympic bronze — a first for a Polish women's four. Over 1000 m she has been a fixture of the world elite for the best part of a decade: world championship silver in the K1 1000 m in Szeged (2019) and Duisburg (2023), K2 1000 m silver in Montemor-o-Velho (2018) and bronze in the same event in Račice (2017). At the European Championships she has twice struck gold — the K2 1000 m in Belgrade in 2018 and the K1 1000 m in Szeged in 2024, a final she won by 1.2 seconds while also collecting silver in the K2 500 m and K4 500 m. A bronze from the 2019 European Games rounds out the set. In 2024 she remained a core member of the national team, logging eleven races at home and abroad, including at the World Championships, and in 2025 she lined up at domestic regattas. Among Polish kayakers she remains the surest bet over 1000 m — a distance she has made her own.
