Isaquias Queiroz dos Santos is the greatest sprint canoeist Brazil has ever produced and one of the defining C1 racers of his era. Born on 3 January 1994 in Ubaitaba, Bahia, he owns five Olympic medals — a haul that puts him level with Robert Scheidt and Torben Grael as Brazil's most decorated male Olympian. The collection started with a bang at his home Games in Rio 2016: silver in the C1 1000, silver in the C2 1000 with Erlon Silva and bronze in the C1 200 made him the first Brazilian athlete to win three medals at a single Olympics. In Tokyo he finally struck gold in the C1 1000, and at Paris 2024 — where he also carried Brazil's flag — he added C1 1000 silver. Around the Olympic peaks sit a string of world titles, among them C1 500 crowns in 2013, 2014, 2018 and 2022 and the C1 1000 in 2019. The 2026 season opened with upheaval: in January, Flamengo shut down its canoeing program, leaving the Olympic champion without a club.
