Wiktor Głazunow is living proof that persistence pays in canoe sprint. Born on 24 October 1993 in Wałcz and representing AZS-AWF Gorzów, the Polish canoeist has built his career across the C1 and C2 classes, from the 500 m dash to the sport's longest championship distance — the 5000 m that finally crowned him world champion in Samarkand in August 2024. For years he was the discipline's great runner-up. Between 2015 and 2023 he collected seven world championship silver medals, mostly in the C2 and C4 crew boats, plus a bronze in Duisburg in 2023. The breakthrough came in Samarkand: he won the C1 5000 m final decisively in 25:33.565, then backed it up with bronze over the same distance in Milan a year later. His cabinet also holds European gold in the C4 1000 m from Plovdiv in 2017. A two-time Olympian, he reached the B final of the C1 1000 m in Tokyo and placed sixth in the A final in Paris in 2024 — before being handed the honour of leading Poland's delegation as flag bearer at the closing ceremony. His 2026 has been relentless: 31 races so far, with three golds and a bronze across domestic and international starts.
