Katie Vincent is the Olympic champion in the women's C1 200m and the first Canadian woman to win Olympic gold in canoeing. Born on 12 March 1996 in Mississauga, Ontario, and still racing for her hometown Mississauga Canoe Club, she claimed the Paris 2024 title in 44.12 — the fastest time ever recorded in the event — and added C2 500m bronze with Sloan MacKenzie in the same regatta, on a podium she shared with Ukraine's Liudmyla Luzan. Her pedigree runs deep. In Tokyo she took C2 500m bronze with Laurence Vincent Lapointe, the partner with whom she had already won world C2 500m titles in Račice (2017) and Montemor-o-Velho (2018). Increasingly racing on her own terms, she became C1 200m world champion in Copenhagen in 2021, then collected three world titles apiece in 2022 (C1 5000m, C4 500m, mixed C2 500m) and 2023 (C1 500m, C1 5000m, mixed C2 500m). In June 2025 she lowered the C1 500m world record to 2:00.61 at the Canadian trials. Named to Canada's team for 2026, she has raced 22 times internationally this season across the C1, C2 and C4, collecting two World Cup bronze medals. The circuit also swung through her home country for the [Montreal World Cup](/news/montreal-canoe-sprint-world-cup-2026-recap-en), where the women's canoe events revolved around [Liudmyla Luzan](/news/liudmyla-luzan-four-golds-montemor-2026-en), the rival Vincent keeps running into on the biggest starts. The World Championships in Poznań (26–30 August) headline the remaining season calendar, with Los Angeles 2028 qualification running through the world rankings — and Vincent's blend of 200m speed and 500m endurance keeps her central to both conversations.
