Carlos Arévalo López is Spain's pure-speed specialist — a sprint kayaker from Betanzos in Galicia, born on 6 December 1993, who has turned the K1 200 and the K4 500 into his personal hunting grounds and owns two Olympic medals with the Spanish four. His breakthrough at the very top came in Tokyo, where Spain's K4 500 — Arévalo alongside Saúl Craviotto, Marcus Cooper Walz and Rodrigo Germade — took Olympic silver. The following year in Dartmouth he produced the meet of his life, winning double world gold in the K1 200 and the K4 500. In Paris in 2024 the Spanish four stayed on the Olympic podium with bronze, and in 2025 the crew added another world championship bronze in the K4 500. His trophy cabinet also holds K4 500 world silver from 2019 and European Games gold from Kraków in 2023. The 2026 season has kept him right in the mix: 23 international starts across K1 and K4, with a gold and a silver collected between the [European Championships in Montemor-o-Velho](/news/european-canoe-sprint-championships-2026-wrap-up-en) and the World Cup circuit, including the [Montreal stop](/news/world-cup-iii-montreal-2026-preview-en) previewed as a key test of the sprint field. With the World Championships in Poznań (26–30 August) on the season calendar and Los Angeles 2028 qualification running through the world rankings, the Galician remains one of the men to beat whenever the racing comes down to raw speed.
