Liudmyla Luzan is the dominant force in women's canoe sprint — an eight-time world champion from Ukraine whose range runs from the C1 200m dash to the C2 500m. Born on 27 March 1997 in Ivano-Frankivsk and racing for Dynamo Poltava, she has turned the women's canoe events into her personal domain over the past five seasons. Her Olympic account opened in Tokyo with C2 500m silver alongside Anastasiia Chetverikova and bronze in the C1 200m, then grew in Paris 2024 with another C2 500m silver, this time with Anastasiia Rybachok. At the World Championships she has been even harder to contain: titles in the C2 500m (Copenhagen 2021), the C1 500m and C1 1000m (Dartmouth 2022) and the C1 500m (Samarkand 2024), before a four-gold sweep of the C1 200m, C1 500m, C2 200m and C2 500m in Milan in 2025. The 2026 season has been a procession: nine gold medals in 22 international starts, headlined by [four European titles in Montemor-o-Velho](/news/liudmyla-luzan-four-golds-montemor-2026-en) — a haul that made her the [face of the championships](/news/european-canoe-sprint-championships-2026-wrap-up-en) — after a spring that ran through the [World Cup in Szeged](/news/icf-canoe-sprint-world-cup-szeged-2026-sun-shines-in-sprint) and brought a double victory in Montreal. With the World Championships in Poznań (26–30 August) on the season calendar and Los Angeles 2028 qualification running through the world rankings, Luzan enters the second half of the summer as the reference point for every canoe final she reaches.
